The SureSign Digital Blood Pressure Monitor offers a simple, automatic, and professionally accurate method for individuals to measure their blood pressure and pulse rate in the comfort of their home. Equipped with a WHO classification indicator, it makes understanding your readings straightforward, which is particularly beneficial for patient education. In Africa and Tanzania, where access to frequent clinical monitoring can be challenging, this device is vital for the decentralized and consistent management of the increasing burden of hypertension (high blood pressure).

Available Models/Sizes/Variations

This model (LD-588/SLD3-107) is an Upper Arm Automatic Digital Blood Pressure Monitor. It includes a Standard Cuff designed to fit upper arm circumferences between 22cm and 32cm. An Optional Large Cuff is also available separately to accommodate arm circumferences up to 43.2cm. The monitor features a memory function for 2 distinct users, storing up to 60 measurements for each.

Main Intended Uses

The primary intended use is the non-invasive measurement of Systolic and Diastolic arterial blood pressure and Pulse Rate in adult patients (age 15 and above). A key feature is the Irregular Heartbeat (IHB) Detector, which alerts users to potential arrhythmias. Localized Use: This monitor facilitates reliable, long-term data collection necessary for doctors to adjust hypertension treatment protocols without requiring the patient to visit a clinic solely for vital sign checks.

Operating Instructions
  1. Preparation: Sit calmly with your back supported and feet flat on the floor; rest for at least five minutes before starting.
  2. Cuff Placement: Wrap the cuff snugly around your bare upper arm, positioning the tube over the center of your arm and ensuring the cuff is level with your heart.
  3. Measurement: Press the ‘Start’ button (One-touch operation). The cuff will automatically inflate and then deflate. Remain still and silent during this process.
  4. Reading: Read the displayed digital values for SYS (Systolic), DIA (Diastolic), and PUL (Pulse).
  5. Storage: The device automatically turns off after 3 minutes of inactivity to save battery life.
Potential Risks/Adverse Events

The device is considered low-risk. Potential adverse events include minor temporary Arm Discomfort or Redness if the cuff is applied too tightly. Inaccurate readings are the primary risk, often resulting from user error (e.g., movement, incorrect cuff size, or a cold operating temperature).

Interactions/Compatibility

The monitor is powered by 4 x AA batteries (generally included). Only use new, high-quality alkaline batteries. It may be incompatible with or prone to errors when used near devices that emit strong electromagnetic interference.

Warnings/Precautions

DO NOT use the readings from this device to self-diagnose or modify medication dosage without consulting a healthcare provider. Do not use this device on infants or persons who cannot express their intentions. If you have serious conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular problems, or have had a stroke, consult your doctor before using. Localized Warning: Store the device away from direct, harsh sunlight and excessive heat, which are common in many parts of Tanzania and Africa, to ensure the longevity and accuracy of the internal components.

Summary of Important Information
Device Type Intended Use Operating Environment Sterilization Method Potential Risks Warnings
Digital Oscillometric BP Monitor (Upper Arm) Home/Clinical BP and Pulse Monitoring Quiet, Room Temperature (approx. 20ºC) Wipe exterior/cuff with a mild, dry or slightly damp cloth Arm discomfort; Inaccurate readings from user error Do not self-diagnose; Consult a doctor; Use the correct cuff size (22-32cm standard).
Mechanism of Operation

The SureSign monitor operates on the Oscillometric Technology coupled with a Fuzzy Algorithm. When the upper arm cuff automatically inflates, it temporarily restricts blood flow. As the air pump deflates, the device’s sensor detects the tiny pressure fluctuations (oscillations) created by the arterial pulse wave. The Fuzzy Algorithm processes these oscillation amplitudes to determine the Mean Arterial Pressure (MAP), from which it then calculates and converts the Systolic and Diastolic blood pressure values into digital millimeters of mercury (mmHg) for display.
