Uses
Community-acquired pneumonia, bronchitis, sinusitis, and some skin/soft tissue infections caused by susceptible organisms.
How to Use
- Dosage: Adults: usually 500 mg once daily, may be increased to 1000 mg once daily in severe infections.
- Duration: Typically 7–14 days depending on infection type and severity.
Side Effects
Nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, altered taste, headache. Rare: QT prolongation, liver dysfunction, hearing changes.
Interactions
Strong CYP3A4 inhibitor—may interact with statins, anticoagulants, digoxin, and other drugs. Avoid use with ergot derivatives and certain antiarrhythmics.
Warnings
Not for viral infections. Use with caution in liver or kidney impairment. Avoid in patients with known QT prolongation or arrhythmias.
